Henning Berg to coach Hungary's Videoton
Former Norwegian international Henning Berg has been named as coach of Hungarian football club Videoton FC, the club said Thursday.
The 46-year-old has signed a two-year-contract and will take over the reins at the end of May, read a statement on Videoton's website.
"As a coach he has proved his abilities, he is still young and exceptionally motivated," the club's sporting director told the website.
Berg, who won a Champions League winner's medal with Manchester United in 1999, moves to Hungary after a two-year spell in Poland where he coached Legia Warsaw to a league title in 2014.
He was sacked last October despite steering Legia to second place in the league at the time.
"As a player, and as coach of Legia I challenged for titles and cups and I don't plan to change that in Hungary," Berg, who was the first player to win the English Premier League titles with two clubs (Blackburn Rovers and Manchester United), told the club's website.
Videoton, who last won the Hungarian championship in 2015, finished second this season, earning a place in the Europa League qualifiers.
Berg's predecessor, former Hungarian international Ferenc Horvath, took over at the beginning of last season from ex Marseille player and French international Bernard Casoni who was sacked two months into his term after four defeats in five games.
