Indian goalie goes down in history
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu opened a new chapter in his country's football history as he became the first ever Indian national to play a competitive match for a European first division club.
The 23-year-old goalkeeper for Norwegian Tippeligaen side Stabaek IF made his first appearance on the pitch in the cup game against Runar IL. In the comfortable 6-0 win the Indian kept a clean sheet and reacted happy and overwhelmed by his remarkable achievement.
On the club's website Sandhu is being quoted saying: "The team showed character and didn't lose concentration and did what it required in these kind of matches. I'm the only Indian player to play for a top division club in Europe so... I'm lucky."
Happy to get a clean sheet on my debut for @Stabaek tonight - thanks coach! #HitForSix #ProudIndian
