Runaway Portuguese league leaders and Champions League quarter-finalists Benfica have extended their coach Roger Schmidt's contract until June 2026.

The Lisbon outfit recruited German Schmidt in May 2022, and ahead of the weekend action his charges enjoy a 10 point lead at the top of the Primeira Liga table.

"It feels like I'm in the right place. I'm very happy that Benfica believe in me," said the 56-year-old.

They also have a Champions League quarter-final to look forward to against Inter Milan with the first leg at home on April 11.
