Algerian giants sanctioned after more than 100 fans hurt in violence
Top Algerian clubs JS Kabylie and MC Alger were both hit with stadium bans and fined on Thursday after an explosive cup tie left more than 100 fans in hospital following violent clashes.
The Algerian league said that JSK must play three games (one suspended) behind closed doors as well as pay a main fine of 200,000 dinars (1,500 euros) and another fine of 50,000 dinars (375 euros) "for bad organisation."
MC Alger were also handed a three-game stadium ban, two of which were suspended, and fined 200,000 dinars.
The Algerian Cup semi-final played in mid-April saw missiles thrown onto the ground and into the stands while supporters of both teams fought running battles with security forces.
The game, classified as high-risk by authorities, was played on neutral territory at Constantine, situated 430km from Algiers due to lack of capacity at JSK's ground in Tizi-Ozou, around 100km from the capital.
JSK won the match in a penalty shootout and will face USM Bel-Abbes in the final on May 1.
